The following excerpt is from The Chicago Sum Tymes March 31, 1979 Very Late edition: by Tom Demos "I remember it well", said Blue. "It was the summer of '69, the summer of Love, and fish. We were sitting at Belmont Harbor, in Chicago, IL on warm summer day. We had a few beers and I was telling Mitch about a "monster fish" that I caught, fought and lost. We both had our lines wet and rigged for Perch. It was about 3:00 in the afternoon. The water was calm, the sun was bright. All was peaceful." It is at this time that Blue gets a faraway look on his face and then continues. " To this day is seems like an acid flashback. The water started churning about 100ft from shore. Rising from under the water, in a circle of light, what appears to be a 3 tined gold pitchfork breaks the surface of the water, soon followed by a Very large greenish hand, followed by, arm, head and the rest of the body. The over all height was about 6 ft. It was Poseidon, I am sure of it to this day. He looked at us and said "Royal Fish Academy". We both looked at each other and Mitch said "WHAT?". The enity said " You must establish the Royal Fish Academy. A place where anglers of your age can meet and exchange stories". Mitch then said, "WHAT?". Poseidon continued in a more rushed tone, "Ok, let me spell it out for you two. Remember going out fishing on a warm summer day with your Grand Father? Remember him drinking a few beers, and telling you about the "monster fish" that got away? Well, that's what it is all about. I will visit you both in the future when the time is right. Until then, keep the sacred oath of the Royal Fish Academy safe from all non-believers. Take this scroll and go forth and recruit only the most worthy to join the Royal Fish Academy." Blue then said that was the last time he saw Poseidon and the rest as they say is history. The Northern Chapter of the Royal Fish Academy has approximately 4 members at this time, but concedes that "We have just begun". This reporter will follow up in a few years to see if there have been other sightings. T.Demos 3-13-1999 It is from these humble beginnings that The Northern Chapter of the Royal Fish Academy began and today boast a membership of over 10,000 real and imagined members.
